John Schneider partners with Stine organization
SULPHUR, LA – Feb. 4, 2015. A long-time Louisiana-owned business is bringing in a well-known celebrity as its new spokesperson.
Stine Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising, David Stine, says he is excited to announce that John Schneider will be featured as a spokesperson for the Stine family’s chain of 12 home improvement stores.
Best known for his role as Bo Duke from the popular 70s television series, The Dukes of Hazzard, John Schneider now owns and operates his own film production company, John Schneider Studios, in Holden, Louisiana, near Baton Rouge.
“We do business with Stine all the time since we are building sets for various film projects here in Louisiana,” Schneider says, “So it was a natural fit for us to work together.”
Schneider will be featured in print, web, television and social media throughout the year and will kick-off a year-long sweepstakes campaign for Stine in late February. Schneider spends most of his time currently working as a director, so some of the recently filmed spots may have a “humorous short film” feel to them.
In addition to directing films and commercials, Schneider’s familiar face still appears on screen from time to time. Currently he can be seen in Auto Trader commercials where he and fellow actor, Tom Wopat, are driving the famous General Lee car from the Dukes of Hazzard series.
Stine operates a store in Walker, La. where Schneider and his crew visit quite often. Walker manager, Mike Sharp, says that Schneider is always friendly with customers who recognize him and is on a first-name basis with many of his associates.
“He’s not Hollywood-comes-to-town,” Sharp said. “And he’s really big on promoting Louisiana and likes the fact that we are owned by a Louisiana family.”
David Stine and his son, Jeremy, recently spent an afternoon at John Schneider Studios to get an insider’s view of the world of film-making.
“We pulled up at his property to find a real live alligator and actors filming in a swamp area.” Stine said. “Later we sat down together, enjoyed lunch on his back porch and traded family stories. He was very gracious.”

Since this visit, Schneider and his crew have been shooting on location at one of the Stine stores. “John was amazing to watch at work, both in front of and behind the camera,” Stine said. “I certainly got a better sense of how movies are made and the quick pace of the industry.”

Stine explained that Schneider fans will want to keep an eye out for him on Facebook as he will be featured in upcoming social media campaigns. “It will be fun to see how Schneider and his sidekick, Breet, resonate with people throughout Louisiana in these campaigns.” Breet Popwell has a background in stand-up comedy and is featured in some of the film spots for Stine.
“As we were planning our Better Brands, Lower Prices campaign, and we felt that John, himself, is a ‘better brand’ due to his acting abilities and philanthropic efforts,” Stine explained. Schneider, along with Marie Osmond, is a co-founder of the Children’s Miracle Network which has raised over $4.7 billion for children’s hospitals, medical research and community awareness of children’s health issues.
David Stine’s father, J.W. Stine, began a career in the lumber business in 1946 after returning home from WWII. He retired more than 30 years ago leaving his six sons to grow the business, with each son taking a different area of responsibility. He is nearly 97 years old and still lives in Sulphur.
So what does J.W. think about John Schneider “joining the family?” The Stine brothers say their dad always looks forward to seeing their television commercials and is looking forward to seeing this one, too.
